    Point Isabel ISD: COVID-19 Update
    March 19, 2020

    Dear Tarpon Family,

I am writing to inform you that Governor Abbott released an executive order closing all schools until April 3, 2020.   We fully understand that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community.

This means that our students will stay at home until further notice starting March 23, 2020.  Most of our employees will be asked to work from home.  The majority of our employees, including teachers and support staff at both the District and Campus levels, can perform their duties via on-line technology from the safety of their homes.

Only limited staff will report to work to complete critical functions, such as (but not limited to):

    • Members of our Food Services, Transportation, and Custodial Teams to provide meals for our children
    • Members of our Finance Department to process Purchases, Accounts Payable, and Payroll as needed
    • District and Campus Leadership teams for critical planning, messaging, and other key functions as needed

Staff members reporting to work will self-report for the following reasons:

    1. If an employee has been experiencing symptoms of COVID-19,
    2. If an employee has traveled or been in close contact with someone who recently traveled to any of the Level III countries, or a city or state in the U.S. experiencing an outbreak of Coronavirus.
    3. If an employee has spent time around someone confirmed to have COVID-19.

Instructional Support: In this plan, parents will keep their children at home.  TEKS aligned instruction will be provided through the use of technology and instructional packets.  All students will be provided continuity of instructional supports through the following:

    1. Campus Principals will be communicating to the students’ families indicating the time and process for picking up any instructional materials/ technology.
    2. Campus Principals and Teachers will communicate with their students using ClassDoJo, Remind, Google Classroom, and emails, etc. indicating instructional practices and notices.

Food Distribution-Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily as follows:

    • Pick-Up Locations:
      • Port Isabel High School
      • Derry Elementary
      • Garriga Elementary
    • Time: 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

As always, district and campus information will be updated regularly using the social media sites:

    • School district website:  pi-isd.net
    • Twitter: @PointIsabelISD
    • Instagram: @pointisabelisd1
    • Facebook: @point.isabelisd or Point Isabel ISD Tarpons

Additionally, Point Isabel ISD asks the broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness:

    • Don’t shake hands
    • Wash your hands regularly
    • Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places maintaining 3 to 6 ft. of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)
    • If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups (no more than 10)

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of our Point Isabel ISD community stay safe and healthy.   Thank you to all of our Campus Principals and Administrators for working throughout this week to finalize instructional plans!  Thank you Curriculum and Instruction Department for supporting the development of instructional plans for our students!  Thank you Technology Department for maintaining instructional devices and internet access!  Thank you Food Service Department for planning and preparing meals for our students! Thank you Business Office for facilitating the purchases of instructional resources and materials!  Thank you Police Department for assisting our departments and campuses as we deploy our plans!  Thank you Central Office for quickly responding to our district’s needs!  Thank you Maintenance and Custodial Department for ensuring that all of our campuses and district offices are sanitized and safe for our employees currently working!  Thank you Teachers and Staff for your flexibility and continued focus on the education of our students!

We greatly appreciate everything all of you do for our students. Tarpon Strong!
