Port Isabel High School Senior, April Puente, has officially committed to the University of Texas at San Antonio, signing her letter of intent to continue her academic pursuits and powerlifting career at the esteemed university. With her exceptional achievements and dedication, April has proven herself to be a true role model for her peers.
Ranked within the top 10 percent of her graduating class of 2023, April's academic excellence has been acknowledged by her school and community. However, her talents extend far beyond the classroom. As an all-around student-athlete, she has left an indelible mark on the Port Isabel High School sports program.
April's remarkable leadership qualities have been evident throughout her high school journey. She has faced and conquered adversity, becoming an inspiration to others through her resilience and determination. During the summer of 2022, April encountered a setback due to an injury. Undeterred by the obstacle, she embarked on a rigorous physical therapy regimen to heal herself in time for the powerlifting season.
Her commitment to overcoming challenges paid off, as April emerged victorious as a regional and state champion. Her triumphs in powerlifting have not only brought recognition to herself but have also brought pride and honor to the Port Isabel Independent School District (PIISD).
