The Ground Rules

Electronics Communication System

An opportunity has been given to access the District's technology resources, meaning electronic communication systems and electronic equipment. Point Isabel I.S.D. recognizes that access to technology resources in school gives students greater opportunities to learn, engage, communicate, and develop skills that will prepare them for work, life and citizenship.

With this educational opportunity comes responsibility. It is important that all staff and students have read and signed the District policy, administrative guidelines, and agreement form. Inappropriate use of the District's technology resources may result in suspension or revocation of the privilege to use these educational tools, as well as other disciplinary or legal action, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and applicable laws.

  • As a user of the District's technology resources, you will be able to access:

  • An unlimited number of databases, libraries, and resources;

  • The Internet and other electronic information systems/networks, which can be used to communicate with schools, colleges, organizations, and individuals around the world; and

  • Shared electronic equipment, which may have stored temporary Internet and electronic files of other users.

Please be aware that the Internet is an association of diverse communication and information networks. Use of the District's technology resources, is not private and the District will monitor all activity. It is the user's responsibility to follow the rules for appropriate use at all times.

Email

Access to email and the Internet via the Point Isabel ISD network is provided to you as tools for conducting school business. Appropriate access and use of these resources is YOUR responsibility when you use them, regardless of your job classification. The smooth operation of these technologies depends upon your proper and responsible conduct in accordance with district policies.

For those of you with students under your supervision, it is important to "lay the ground rules" with students before beginning any classroom projects involving the Internet and the network. Actively monitor students as they use the computer equipment, and help them become ethical and responsible users of the Internet and related technologies.

Internet

The Internet allows kids the opportunity to immediately reach out to people and information. Much of the information on the Internet has positive educational value, but definitely not all. Point Isabel ISD has special software and hardware in place that will help restrict access to undesirable adult material and topics.
However, it is not possible to completely block all objectionable sites. As parents and teachers, we must teach students to be responsible consumers of information and responsible users of the district's technology equipment. The resources in this section will help you maximize the benefits of the Internet and related technologies for your child's education and minimize the risks that your child could encounter online
