POINT ISABEL ISD FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES DEPARTMENT HOSTS SUCCESSFUL FOOD PANEL TO UNVEIL EXCITING NEW MENU ITEMS

Port Isabel, Texas [January 9, 2024] — Point Isabel Independent School District's Food and Nutrition Services Department recently organized an engaging food panel event to introduce and gather feedback on a diverse array of prospective menu items. The event, held at Port Isabel Early College High School, welcomed students, staff, and community members to savor and provide valuable input on the new culinary offerings.

A grand total of 50 innovative food items, spanning both breakfast and lunch menus, were showcased during the event. Participants had the unique opportunity to taste and evaluate an assortment of items, including popular choices such as BOBs (Breakfast on a Bun), sausage and egg croissants, whole grain poptarts, honey sriracha chicken, enchiladas, and orange chicken.
 
Guests were encouraged to leave comments and rank each food item, ensuring their voices contribute to the final selection of items that will be featured in the school cafeterias. This collaborative approach not only fosters community engagement but also empowers students and staff to play a role in shaping their daily dining experiences.

The Food and Nutrition Services Department's commitment to promoting healthy school lunches was highlighted during the event by FNS Director, Angela Olivares, and Superintendent, Terri Capistran. Both shared insightful information about the nutritional value of the menu items, as well as the laws supporting the provision of wholesome and balanced meals in school cafeterias.
 
Angela Olivares expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "We are excited to bring a variety of delicious and nutritious options to our students. The feedback received during this food panel will help us tailor our menus to meet the preferences and nutritional needs of our school community."
 
Superintendent Terri Capistran added, "Great things are happening at Point Isabel ISD, and the dedication of our Food and Nutrition Services team to enhancing the dining experience for our students is truly commendable.
