Effective September 1, 2025
The 89th Texas Legislature recently passed, and Governor Greg Abbott signed into law, House Bill 1481, a new measure that directly impacts the daily use of personal communication devices by students in Texas public schools.
Beginning September 1, 2025, students will no longer be allowed to use personal communication devices—including cell phones, smartwatches, and tablets—during the school day. This new statewide policy is part of an effort to minimize distractions and improve the overall learning environment across all Texas campuses.
Point Isabel ISD is actively developing a plan to ensure full compliance with House Bill 1481 and to support a smooth transition for our students and staff. Prior to the start of the 2025–2026 school year, the district will provide detailed guidance to families and employees outlining how this law will be implemented across all PI-ISD schools.
How can you help?
We encourage parents and guardians to begin discussing this change with their children now. Early conversations will help students better understand the purpose behind the law and adjust to the new expectations when the school year begins.
Point Isabel ISD remains committed to fostering a safe and focused learning environment for all students. We appreciate your support as we work together to implement this change successfully.
