The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is a three-fold program that is meant to guide and support staff development opportunities, enhance instructional implementation, and to ensure student mastery on assessments.

Our office is here to ensure that all:

Exam for Acceleration

Credit by Exam (CBE) for Acceleration offers a chance to attain grade level or course credit without having previously undergone formal instruction. If there has been prior instruction, Credit by Exam (CBE) provides an opportunity to earn grade level or course credit upon the successful completion of formal instruction.

Credit By Exam Frequently Asked Questions

What is Credit by Exam for Acceleration?

Credit by Exam/Exam for Acceleration provides an opportunity to earn grade level or course credit in which no prior formal instruction was completed. Credit by Exam is designed for a small percentage of students who have an academic and emotional need to advance a course or grade level.

What are the eligibility requirements for a student to register for CBE?

Students must meet all eligibility requirements to register for CBE testing:

  • Student is enrolled in a Point Isabel ISD school.

  • Student will be at least 5 years old by September 1st of the current year.

  • Registration form is completed and returned to school principal by the deadline listed on the form.

  • Campus principal must sign the registration form to verify student’s grade level and eligibility.

What is the registration process?

All CBE registrations are completed through the school counselor.

Are the tests administered on paper or online?

Tests for grades 3 and higher will be taken online. Grades K - 2 tests are taken on paper.

After my student has taken the Credit by Exam, can I review the exam questions?

The CBE assessments are considered secure; we are not allowed to release them.
