Recess Policy
School Health Advisory Committee Approved Recess Policy
During the 2024–2025 school year, the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) worked diligently to establish a recess policy for Point Isabel ISD campuses. With valuable feedback from the community, teachers, students, and staff, the committee crafted a policy designed to support a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Point Isabel ISD elementary campuses will provide students with 15 minutes of daily recess to support physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being. Teacher discretion in withholding recess is limited to weather conditions or student enrichment opportunities. Recess shall not be withheld as a form of punishment. In cases where behavior is a concern, teachers may provide an alternate 15-minute brain break, such as coloring, reading, or other quiet activities, in place of outdoor play. This policy reflects the district’s commitment to maintaining a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for all students.
