Point Isabel ISD Health Services provides school-based health support designed to promote student wellness and reduce health-related barriers to learning.

Services may include:

• First aid and assessment of illness or injury during the school day

• Management and support of students with chronic health conditions

• Medication administration in accordance with district procedures

• State-required health screenings

• Immunization record review and compliance

• Development and implementation of student health plans when appropriate

• Emergency health support

• Health education and wellness resources

• Communication with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns

• Coordination with healthcare providers when appropriate and authorized

School health services are not a substitute for evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment by a student's healthcare provider.

Parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade are encouraged to review the official Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for the 2026–2027 school year.

The DSHS requirements address vaccines including:

• Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (DTaP/DTP/DT/Tdap/Td)

• Polio

• Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)

• Hepatitis B

• Varicella (Chickenpox)

• Meningococcal (MCV4)

• Hepatitis A

Families of children enrolled in Pre-K or applicable childcare programs should also review the Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Childcare and Pre-K Facilities.

Parents and guardians are responsible for providing the school with current and acceptable immunization documentation.

If your child receives additional vaccinations or updated immunization records, please provide a copy to your child's campus nurse so the student's health record can be updated.

Texas law also provides for certain medical and reasons-of-conscience exemptions, subject to applicable state requirements and documentation. Families seeking information about exemptions should review current guidance from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Questions About Your Child's Immunization Record?

If you are unsure whether your child meets the current Texas immunization requirements, please contact your child's campus nurse for assistance.

Please do not wait until the beginning of the school year to review your child's immunization record. Addressing missing immunizations or documentation early can help prevent delays with school attendance.

If your child has a medical condition that may affect them during the school day, please notify the campus nurse.

Examples may include:

• Asthma

• Diabetes

• Severe allergies or anaphylaxis

• Seizure disorders

• Cardiac conditions

• Other chronic or significant medical conditions

Parents/guardians may be asked to provide appropriate medical documentation, medications, emergency action plans, or physician orders.

Providing this information helps school personnel prepare to appropriately support your child during the school day and during school-sponsored activities.

Non-Emergency Services  

Parents/Guardians,  

During the 89th Texas Legislature Session, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 12, which requires schools to get annual parental consent before providing routine physical or mental health services. This includes services such as first aid, short-term counseling, or vision and hearing screening.  

In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB12), 89th Texas Legislative Session, and in recognition of your right to direct your child’s medical and mental health care, we are requesting your consent for your child to receive non-emergency health services from the campus nurse, counselor, or other authorized school personnel.

 Durante la 89.ª Sesión Legislativa de Texas, los legisladores aprobaron el Proyecto de Ley del Senado 12, que exige que las escuelas obtengan el consentimiento anual de los padres antes de brindar servicios rutinarios de salud física o mental. Esto incluye servicios como primeros auxilios, consejería a corto plazo o exámenes de la vista y la audición.  

De acuerdo con el Proyecto de Ley del Senado 12 (SB 12), de la 89.ª Sesión Legislativa de Texas, y en reconocimiento de su derecho a dirigir la atención médica y de salud mental de su hijo/a, solicitamos su consentimiento para que su hijo/a reciba servicios de salud que no sean de emergencia por parte de la enfermera, el consejero/a u otro personal escolar autorizado.
